Principal Security Engineer, Detection Strategy

Detection strategy at Alderbrook needs someone thinking from both an attacker's and a defender's perspective at once, and this principal role owns the long-term technical direction of both the security of Alderbrook's own platform and the detection capabilities it sells to customers. The role is based in the Boston office with flexibility for occasional remote weeks.

Identifying strategic gaps in current detection coverage well ahead of customer complaints is the mandate here; you would also prototype solutions to the hardest technical problems personally rather than only writing proposals for others to build, and mentor senior engineers across both the platform security and detection engineering teams. Coverage gaps against a publicly tracked category of cloud-identity attacks have come up in three separate customer escalations this year.

Required: a strong track record spanning both offensive and defensive security work, deep security-architecture and threat-modeling skills, and system-design judgment for detection coverage at product scale. Eight or more years of security engineering experience is the level this principal opening is set at. People-management experience is not required either; this is an individual-contributor track with broad technical influence instead.

Full time, based in the Boston office most weeks with flexibility for occasional remote weeks when travel or personal circumstances call for it. Two of the customer escalations came from the same industry vertical within weeks of each other, an open question this role is expected to help answer. Reports directly to the VP of security.
